Our Greatest Challenges are our Greatest Opportunities

Former three-term Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak will join the Institute to discuss the most pressing issues affecting the vitality of our communities and our country. With his understanding of cities and people, Rybak is hoping to unlock the power we all bring to the table knowing that we, the people, are our country’s greatest asset. He will illustrate how our current environment is the ideal time for incredible progress in closing the achievement gap in education, reducing disparities across the board, and moving the country forward.

R.T. is the author of Pothole Confidential, a political memoir that tells the story of his twelve years as mayor of Minneapolis and his quest for equality, demonstrating what good governance and true leadership look like. Currently, he serves as President and CEO of one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the country, overseeing the management of nearly $700 million in assets and the average annual distribution of more than $50 million in grants.

Before leading The Minneapolis Foundation, Rybak served as executive director of Generation Next, a coalition of civic, business, and school leaders focused on closing the educational opportunity gap in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Prior to that, he served as mayor of Minneapolis from 2002 to 2013.

Copies of Pothole Confidential will be available for sale and signing by the author.
