Governor-elect Chris Sununu has named Charlie Arlinghaus as his chief adviser while drafting the state budget.  Sununu must present a budget proposal to the legislature in February.

Arlinghaus is the President of the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy, a conservative think-tank.  Arlinghaus also writes weekly columns for the Union Leader.

Generally speaking, Arlinghaus opposes increased government spending.  In Union Leader editorials he has proposed cutting university system funding and breaking up the Department of Health and Human Services into several smaller departments.  Sununu and Arlinghaus both support cutting business taxes.

However, Sen. Lou D’Allesandro told the Union Leader that Arlinghaus often underestimates state revenues.  “I hope he brings an eraser,” said D’Allesandro.
