Following his official announcement that he plans to run for president in 2016, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) returned to New Hampshire on Friday.

Cruz first visited the VFW in Merrimack for an event hosted by the Conservative Businessmen's League of New Hampshire.

“This country was built on a promise. It was built on an extraordinary idea that our rights don’t come from government, they come from God and our founding documents - the declaration, the constitution - were designed to rein in government and protect those God-given rights,” he told attendees.

Cruz also attended an event for the Young America's Foundation in Nashua on Friday, followed by a Saturday brunch with Seacoast Republicans in Greenland.

Though several others are expected to join him in the race, Cruz is the only Republican candidate who has officially announced a run for president.
