This week state officials released the final report from a two year study on expanding southern New Hampshire commuter rail.

The study examined connecting Massachusetts commuter rail to Nashua, Manchester, or Concord.  The farther the route, the greater the cost for the state.  However, the study concluded that a line to Manchester offered the best "bang for the buck," with significant economic development along the route.

Gov. Hassan supports expanded commuter rail.  "Rail is an important part of building a 21st century economy here in New Hampshire," she said in a statement.

Josh Elliott-Traficante, a policy analyst for the conservative Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy, disagrees. "The study paints a rose picture but its revenue assumptions are significantly overstated," he said.

The state released preliminary results of the study last November.
