Fish & Game fee increases

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is holding public hearings this month on license fee increases for fishing and hunting.

The Department is proposing a $10 increase for hunting and fishing licenses.  Residents over age 68 - who right now can get a license for free - would have to pay $10.

On their website, the Department notes that license fees have stayed the same since 2003, while inflation has increased Department costs.  Without a fee increase or additional funding from the legislature, the Department says it will have to end programs such as fish stocking.

Opponents argue that a fee increase might deter hunters and anglers, which could hurt the tourist economy.  Others argue that it is unfair to end the free license for residents over age 68, who are often on a fixed income.

The public hearings are scheduled as follows:

September 24, 2015 at 6:30pm at the Fish and Game Region 1 Office, 629B Main Street, Lancaster

September 28, 2015 at 6:30pm at Keene High School, 43 Arch Street, Keene

September 29, 2015 at 6:30pm at Urban Forestry Center, 45 Elwyn Road, Portsmouth

September 30, 2015 at 6:30pm at N.H. Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord
