Gov. Chris Sununu was inaugurated as New Hampshire Governor on January 5.

In his remarks, Sununu discussed bipartisanship, the loss of young workers, energy costs, and the substance abuse crisis.  He laid out the following specific priorities.

First, Sununu addressed the opioid addiction crisis.  He advocated for “aggressive prevention programs in our schools, that start earlier, that are more aggressive, and I think we need to start bringing in the parents and the stakeholders into those programs.”  He also argued for more beds at rehabilitation facilities, particularly for women.

More than once Sununu addressed school choice, although he did not advocate for a specific voucher program.  He concluded, “I don’t care where your kid wants to go to school, public, private, home school, charter, whatever, it doesn’t matter, you the parent have the ultimate say where your child will go to school regardless of income.”

In terms of making New Hampshire more business-friendly, Sununu argued for more business tax cuts and a ninety day moratorium on regulations at state agencies.

He also made very clear his support for “Right to Work.”

Lastly, Sununu cautioned against rejecting energy projects.  “Do we need to look at Northern Pass?  You bet we do,” he said.  “1100 watts of clean renewable energy?  How do we say no to that when we have the highest energy rates in the country?”
