The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has scheduled public forums in August to discuss four possible medical marijuana dispensary and cultivation sites.

The forums will take place in Plymouth (August 17), Peterborough (August 18), Lebanon (August 19), and Merrimack (August 25). CLICK HERE for more details.

In June DHHS selected three companies to operate a total of four "alternative treatment centers" in the Granite State. DHHS officials divided the state into four regions, each of which will be home to a single center. The state requires local approval for all alternative treatment center locations.

Several towns have since considered ordinances to welcome or forbid medical marijuana businesses.

Medical marijuana supporters argue that alternative treatment centers will boost local economies by drawing patients and their families from around the state.

Opponents believe that alternative treatment centers may encourage local drug culture and burden law enforcement.
