Legislators request bills for 2017

This week current state legislators filed their first bill requests for the 2017 legislative session.
If a legislator loses reelection, his or her bill may still go forward if another legislator steps forward to sponsor it.
Here are some of the most notable bills requested for 2017:
- Rep. Douglas Ley requested a bill to adjust the minimum wage
- Rep. Harold Parker requested a bill to establish a needle exchange program
- Rep. Katherine Rogers requested a bill to require background checks for firearm sales
- Rep. Cindy Rosenwald requested a bill to make Medicaid expansion permanent
- Rep. Kathleen Souza requested a bill to track abortion statistics
- Rep. David Bates has requested several bills related to voting rights, including a constitutional amendment limiting voting to residents
