According to a recent report, New Hampshire is third in the nation for electoral integrity.

The report came from the Electoral Integrity Project, an “independent academic project based at Harvard University and the University of Sydney,” according to their website.  The report ranked states based on a survey of 726 political scientists about their perception of elections in their states.

Experts were asked to agree or disagree with 49 statements such as, “election laws restricted citizens’ rights,” “some ineligible electors were registered,” and “rich people buy elections.”

Vermont ranked first, while Arizona ranked last.  Maine scored seventh, Connecticut scored fifteenth, Massachusetts scored seventeenth, and Rhode Island scored forty-fourth.

The ranking may be criticized because it relies on the opinion of academics rather than objective criteria, such as voter turnout or voting laws.  The academics may have had a somewhat liberal bias, as states that were rated highly were more likely to have voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Do you think that New Hampshire does a good job protecting the integrity of elections?  Let us know in the comments.
