New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary is 100 years old, and it is fitting that the 2016 primary could be one of the more interesting in recent memory.

That's because the racea for both the Republican and Democratic nominations are wide open.

Barack Obama is in the last two years of his presidency, and nascent presidential candidates, particularly the Republicans, are making forays into the Granite State as they meet with voters and decide whether to make a formal run for the White House. The GOP slate could include Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Florida Sen. Marc Rubio, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former New York Gov. George Pataki, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

The pace on the Democratic side is less frenetic at this point as all eyes are on Hillary Clinton, the former first lady, U.S. seneator from New York, and secretary of state. She's a likely contender. Others, such as Vice President Joe Biden, are possibities. Still others, like Massachusett Sen. Elizabeth Warren, say they are sitting this one out and are being pressured to run by certain advocacy groups.
