Online voter registration in New Hampshire?

Sen. Bette Lasky is sponsoring a bill, SB 194, that would implement an online voter registration option in New Hampshire.

Online registration would only be available for eligible voters with a valid New Hampshire drivers’ license or a New Hampshire DMV-issued non-driver identification. Other eligible voters would still need to register to vote in person at city or town offices, with the supervisor of the checklist, or on election day at their polling place.

The online system would be created and maintained by the New Hampshire Department of State.

Supporters argue that the system would make it easier for citizens to register to vote, noting that town hall hours in many New Hampshire towns can be very limited, posing a challenge for voters with full-time work who wish to register.

Opponents express concerns that an online voter registration system could be more vulnerable to fraud, or maintain that individuals should make the effort to register in person as part of their civic duty.
