As part of her newly released economic plan for New Hampshire, gubernatorial candidate Jeanie Forrester is suggesting renaming the Department of Resources and Economic Development, known as DRED.

"When an employer needs to interact with state government, it’s often with an agency referred to as DRED, the Department of Resources and Economic Development," wrote Forrester.  "As a symbolic gesture, I’ll change the name of this agency so business owners no longer look with dread upon dealing with the state to move, grow or expand their businesses."

However, changing the agency's name is not as easy as it sounds.  Rep. William Infantine investigated a name change in 2015, and found that it would cost roughly $200,000.

Some argue that the changing the name of the department would have less impact than increasing its budget for business recruitment.  Right now DRED has an annual budget of $2,500 to travel out of state and recruit businesses to New Hampshire.

Do you think changing the name DRED should be a priority?  Let us know in the comments.
