Should NH block individuals on the federal 'no-fly' list from purchasing a gun?
Last December, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced he planned to issue an executive order prohibiting people on federal terrorism watch lists from acquiring a gun permit - a requirement in Connecticut in order to purchase a gun. Malloy has so far not yet followed through on the plan.
There is currently no effort to ban those on the "no-fly" list from purchasing guns in New Hampshire.
Supporters of a ban point to FBI statistics showing that individuals on the 'no-fly' list attempting to purchase guns over the last 10 years succeeded 90% of the time, and argue that if a person has been deemed too dangerous to board an airplane, they should be considered too dangerous to buy a gun.
Opponents counter that the ban could impinge on the second amendment rights of individuals wrongly placed on the 'no-fly' list, noting that there is no effective appeal process to have one's name removed from the list.
