According to the post-primary reports filed with the Secretary of State, Democrat Colin Van Ostern has a large lead in fundraising.

On September 21 Van Ostern reported that he had raised $1,156,162 and spent $1,054,572. Independent political action committees also spent $214,993 in support of Van Ostern before the primary.

In comparison, Republican Chris Sununu raised $746,196 and spent $689,015. No independent groups reported spending on Sununu's behalf.

Raising more money doesn't necessarily mean a candidate will win an election, however. Ted Gatsas raised and spent the most of any Republican candidate in the state primary - over $1 million - but still came in third in the race for Governor.
