On Wednesday, September 7 New Hampshire's gubernatorial candidates had to file their last fundraising report before the primary.

Democrat Colin Van Ostern is leading the charge with $1,118,487 raised. He has spent $927,488, which is also the most of any gubernatorial candidate.

Republican Ted Gatsas has accumulated the second biggest war chest, $1,062,921. He has spent $801,762 of those funds.

Republican Frank Edelblut comes in third, having raising $835,690. His spending is much more conservative than the other candidates, however. He has only spent about half of his funds, $464,395.

Republican Chris Sununu has raised $703,721 and spent most of it - $609,940.

Behind him Democrat Mark Connolly has raised $575,123. He has still spent more than Edelblut, however, at $485,336.

Republican Jeanie Forrester has raised $249,738 and spent almost all of it, at $223,067.

Democrat Steve Marchand has raised just $101,799 and spent $81,183.

Democrats Derek Dextraze and Ian Freeman and Republican Jon Lavoie raised below $1,000 or did not file a report.

So how much does fundraising matter? It may not matter as much as name recognition.

According to the latest poll from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, most voters are unfamiliar with the candidates and still haven't decided who to vote for. When pressed, however, most voters said they would vote for Chris Sununu on the Republican ticket and Colin Van Ostern on the Democratic ticket.
