According to a new federal report, New Hampshire has the highest rate of cocaine use among young adults in the United States.

The report, from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), used survey results from 2013, 2014, and 2015.

10.5% of New Hampshire adults age 18 to 25 reported using cocaine in the past year.

New Hampshire may be leading a regional trend. Vermont had the second highest rate of cocaine use among young adults, Massachusetts had the sixth highest rate, and Maine had the ninth highest rate.

Mississippi had the lowest percentage of cocaine use among young adults, just 1.8%.  The national average was 5.0%.

While New Hampshire’s high cocaine use is concerning, according to a recent survey from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, young adults in the state are far more likely to have abused prescription drugs in the past 30 days than used cocaine.
