New England, and New Hampshire in particular, has some of the highest energy costs in the nation. These costs are one of the major arguments in favor of energy projects like Northern Pass, new natural gas pipelines, or expanded residential solar.

A new report from WalletHub ranked New Hampshire 8th in the nation on energy costs.  

The report ranked states based on the average monthly consumption and average retail price of electricity, natural gas, home heating oil, and motor fuel.

Eversource is taking the state to court over whether electricity rates can cover the cost of natural gas pipelines.

This past fall Eversource asked the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) if it could enter a twenty-year contract to purchase natural gas from the Access Northeast pipeline, with the costs covered by an increase in the electricity rate for Eversource customers.

According to a new report from the University of New Hampshire (UNH), the Granite State does not need more natural gas pipeline.  This contradicts other studies and reports about the need for more pipeline in New England.
