This weekend marks Daylight Saving Time (DST), when time moves one hour forward.

According to federal law, states do not have to participate in DST. Several states are considering bills to end DST in 2016.

Supporters of DST argue that by shifting activities to daylight hours, DST saves energy, reduces traffic accidents, and reduces crime. Other supporters enjoy the increased daylight after work as a time for outdoor recreation.

Opponents counter that demands for light in the morning and air conditioning in the evening cancel out any energy savings from DST. DST can also disrupt sleep patterns, which has a negative impact on health.
