Paid Jury Duty?

New Hampshire follows federal law, which protects an employee from the threat of losing their job if they are called for jury duty, but does not require that companies compensate employees during their time of service. The state pays jurors $20 per full day of jury service.

Supporters of employee compensation argue that jury duty is a civic responsibility and that employees shouldn't be penalized for losing pay, which can lead to hardship for lower-income families, for participating.

On the other hand, opponents argue that businesses suffer a loss in productivity when an employee is called for jury duty, and shouldn't have to also pay an employee while they are out of the workplace.
